Are dental implants right for me?
Most people are good candidates for dental implants, but the success of your implant therapy depends on the health of your gum and bone volume in your jaw. If you are committed to excellent oral hygiene, maintenance and routine dental follow-up, your dental implants can last a lifetime. If problems do arise, they can usually be resolved if they are discovered early.
What implant brand do you use in the office?
At Central Dental Group, we are a proud preferred provider of the Hiossen Implant System. It is the leading brand of dental implants in the Asian-Pacific market and ranked one of the top five implant companies in the world. All Hiossen dental implant products are manufactured in the United States and are FDA approved. Other popular brands that we routinely work with include: Dentsply Astra Tech, Biomet 3i, Straumann, and Nobel Biocare.
Can I still have dental implants although I smoke?
Yes, but smoking does reduce the success of dental implants. The risk of failure for smokers increases two-fold as compared to non-smokers. While implants may still be successfully placed, we strongly urge all of our smoking patients to quit smoking to ensure the long-term success of their dental implants.
Does my diabetes affect implant success?
High blood glucose levels often lead to a weakened immune system. People with uncontrolled diabetes can more easily contract an infection and have a longer healing time, greatly affecting the long-term success of their implants. As long as your diabetic status is properly monitored and controlled by your physician, the success of your implant therapy is usually comparable to the general population.
Is my osteoporosis an issue for implant therapy?
Some medications for osteoporosis may prolong bone healing and in some rare cases may cause bone necrosis. We may need to consult with your physician before considering you as a good candidate for dental implants.
What do I need to do to make my implants last a lifetime?
Routine exams and professional cleaning (every 6 months) are an absolute must! The health of your jawbone and gum are strongly dependent on your ability to keep the area around your dental implant clean. Practicing good oral hygiene at home is by far the most important thing you can do to keep your implants for life.
In addition to brushing and flossing your teeth twice a day, we highly recommend getting a WaterPik for your dental implants. The WaterPik is a great way to reach bacteria underneath the crown.
Regardless of your health condition, age, or smoking habits, it is important to remember that good oral hygiene is essential to the success of your implant.
